Check carefully and scrutinously for malalignment of alternator (?). There was a posting on this on the LRe Disco-forum a couple of weeks ago; check it out. Trick was to bend it back into alignment, which cured the problem. It is NOT adjustable sideways, but apparantly it can be done... Roverly Yours, Frode |

Hi Kevin, I too have a 300 Tdi Disco. My aux. belt also makes some annoying noises and has done it for the past few years. I changed the belt two years ago (land rover genuine), but the noise did eventually come back, althougth it only does it when cold in the morning for the first 10 minutes... I have heard that some people use adhesive spray as used on hydraulic belts and other industrial applications. Alternatively, I have heard that Lucas makes the same belt but with better quality of rubber and some people swear by it. you can also use a wire brush and clean up all the little grooves on those pulleys to help with friction. good luck, Luc |

I had the same problem on my 300 TDi, where the Aux belt would "whistle" when the car was idling. I cleaned out the grooves, but to no avail. Spoke to dealer, result was that the rubber hardens, and causes the belt to perish. Once this starts, it can be noisy for either a few years, or a few months before it's time to replace. Replaced mine (did the air con belt too while I was there), now "Dissy" runs as smooth as ever. H RNESS |

See: http://www.landyonline.co.za/techtalk/troubleshooting_v_ribbed_belt_noise.htm Dayco is the brand from the belt that was mounted as my Disco was Brand new. I Don´t know why, but the noise is present when I mount another. 97 TDI 300 Germán |
