If I unhook the battery to clean the terminals
will I screw up anything but the clock?
(ie. alarm, stereo etc..)

Jamie,
RADIO, make sure you have the code to restart the stock radio. It was kind of an anti theft device. If the radio loses power, you have to type in a code number to restart it after it has lost power. The proceedure and number hopefully are listed in the owners manual. If you don't have the number you can either contact the dealer or ask here. Some of the posters can help you if you get stuck.

Some folks say that one should not disconnect the battery without an outboard means of maintaining computer memory, operation of air bags, ABS, etc.

If your truck is a post-96, supposedly, this is even more critical.

One can insure uninterrupted power to his truck by using the cigarette lighter as a means to hook up a battery (or charger) while you disconnect your primary battery.

I have personally suffered from illuminated ABS and SRS lights, necessitating a trip to the Stealershit, well, actually, it was a Rover club meeting where they had an Autolgic.

Either way, it is far less inconvenient to insure power is always to the ECU, etc.

Peace,

No problems on mine (97) with many, many disconnections, but very occaisonally it can require a Testbook or Autlogic to reset SRS or ABS.

I made this mistake last week. The radio code is a must. I had to drive around all weekend without any tunes. I called the dealer first thing monday morning and they were able to retrieve it off their computers.
