I noticed in the past few weeks that my engine seems awfully noisy when I accelerete. The noise sounds like the fan getting louder and louder. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with the temperature outside but it seems like it. Anyone else experience this loud engine syndrome or are Rovers just this way?? This is the first summer that I have owned a Rover. Thanks |

Is it a kind of "roar" during acceleration at low speeds? If so, it's most likely the viscous fan on the front of the engine. It sounds cool. It keeps you engine cool. Embrace the fan. Love the roar. |

But it feels as if my Disco is more sluggish or weak!! A lack of power. |

Garrett#2, are you in Atlanta? I saw that your address has Turner.com. I have a good friend that works for Turner Trade Group. |

yeah the viscous fan does that. like our trucks aren't slow enough as it is. sucks. there are others on this board that know the workings of this fan and all that. i remember reading a year ago or so a good thread on this. |

When was the last time you changed your oil? Crappy old oil can make for a noisy engine. MV |

the only fix if your viscous fan is 'bad' is to replace it. least as far as i know, but don't go on that. i am not really familiar with this part and have never replaced one. it seems to have gotten worse in the past year or so on warm/hot days. if no one here has any other good input i would check with your local dealer. that is if you like them and they are pretty cool to deal with. the one thing that i have noticed is that it will come on at times just cruising down the road at 45 mph under slight acceleration. hell i need all the power i can get right now. i will pass along anything i know. but from what i remember it is pretty normal to have some viscous fan noise climbing hills and just when you are starting out from a stop. |

Garrett#2, I'm in Atlanta. I work in Roswell and live in Buckhead a little past the BHLR. I haven't found a fix for the fan. I've really only noticed it these last two weeks. I just hate climbing the hills and missing the red lights because I have no power to move. It's really like I'm running in LOW range. |

I'm in Marietta, work downtown (Ft McPherson) and this is my first hot season with a Rover and had the same noise/power loss and question. Interesting. Just started the past 2 weeks. I'm still looking for Discos with Discoweb.org stickers, mine is there.... |

Viscous fan cools the motor. It spins harder as the motor gets hoter. It takes more horsepower to do that so it makes your truck feel slower. -P |

So P, this is normal and should be accepted? |

Has anyone tried Water Wetter coolant additive that supposedly brings down coolant temp 30 degrees? If so, any good results? |

I know you originally asked the question about the fan, but while were on the subject, I'm in Roswell. Have any of you been to a Solaros meeting? memebers? Just curious, if not then you should take part, lots of fun, and plenty of off-roading. E-mail me if you're interested, or if you want to get together and go ride. |
