Hey, I found a good deal on the 135 at a local welder's shop. $599 w/cart. Anyone else here have one? Any thoughts on it? I know kyle likes his Hobart and I have another friend that has a lincoln but for the money and features I think it's a good deal. |

Hobart and miller are the same (same manufacturer) except that miller has some aluminium parts where hobart's are plastic. However, if you break anything plastic on the hobart it can be upgraded to the alum miller. Not that I have heard of anyone breaking anything in a hobart but . . . Anyway. Go blue (hobart or miller) or go red (lincoln) other than that don't buy it. Check cyberweld and some of the other online places to see if 599 is a good deal. Ron |

Ron, Have you ever heard of a Firepower? I recently bought an FP-160. It looks VERY similar to the Lincoln (160?) MIG machine. Seems to be really high quality, but what do I know. It seems to have good power and the wire speed and adjustability are consistent. Good Tweco gun too and included the hose and regulator. I am new to this and my welds also resemble bird shit right now. They are getting better though. All in time. Curtis |

Firepower is NAPA's brand I think. I am not sure if it is a rebrand of something else. I am a welding neophite as well my welds look pretty good but I would not trust them on anything that would cause the vehicle to crash if it failed Ron |

Thanks for the link robert, it's amazing you get free shipping too. Must have saved you a bundle on that 210. I might step up to the 175 for just a little more, decisions, decisions. thanks again for the input everyone. |

So how does HTP compare to Miller and Lincoln? |

Al, I have the 175 and it is real nice. I considered the 135 but for the difference I went up. I have this practice of never buying the 'entry' level model of anything. A step up is mostly a smart decision, however I have not owned enough welders to give you a terribly educated opinion, sorry. I would stick with a Miller or Lincoln though, IMHO. Good Luck. old scout you welding on a disco or a scout? cuz you cant use the same welder for both its against the Dweb rules I agree with your choice Millers rule. go into a modern welding shop and you will see bunches of Miller 220/3 phaze units almost all the other stuff is long since gone lincoln used to own that industry...and there are lots of used Lincoln units that will still weld circles around some of the 20% true duty cycle weldedrs out there. but for a home fab shop burn a bead drink a beer units work just fine to |
