Recently i have been driving and my Cats starting rattling. Well I didn't really pay any attention to it until yesterday, when my Check Engine light came on. Could a bad Cat have caused the light to come on? If so how much of a pain is it to replace it? Oh yeah and my truck has 120k on it.

$59.99 each. Try your local exhaust shop.

Well, considering the fact that removing cats is illegal at the federal level and the fine is upwards of $1k, and replacing them with generic is about $120, I'd strongly suggest you replace them. But do what makes you feel good.

I replaced my cats with generic ones recently after the originals started rattlin'.

No problems, and the engine seems to be running much better.

dk - I'm in the UK ! I got them from a specialist exhaust garage I know - not sure where they get them from.

One bit of advice though, they said they used to fit ones with ceramic internals and that they only lasted around 1 year before breaking up - make sure you don't get those.

Matt.

I got mine from Summit Racing. So have many others. The brand is "Catco". There are many others on the market including some nice once from Edelbrock. Your local exhaust shop will probably carry Catco or something similar and give you a warranty. A place like Midas gives a lifetime replacement warranty so I'd do something like that.

Will a aftermarket cat effect the sensors?

I just got off the phone with catco and they do not sell an aftermarket cat. I also called edelbrock as well as all major muffler chains and no one sells or installs cats for a 98 disco. FWIW

Ron, what are you talking about? I don't know who you talked to but they had their head up their butt or they don't know your truck. I have Catcos installed on my RR, and your exhaust is the same.

If you asked them for a replacement cat all will say none are available. You need to ask for a Universal replacement cat. I am not sure of the size needed.

"Replacement Y Pipe with new Cats

(RRC) (DI) $495.00"
are you refering to these cats?

No,

He was referring to the $120/pr cats.

BUT, the $500 for the Y-Pipe is terrific too. Is that an obdI or obdII y-pipe?
