Has anyone had the "Engire Service Soon" amber light come on while driving and did it stay on or go off at any particular point? Mine came on at 49,870 miles and now has stayed off after it hit 49,950 miles. Is this an idicator for servicing at the 50,000 mile mark?

OMG, you're telling me that you went almost 50k miles without getting an SES light? :-)

Generally you'll get an SES light when there is an ODB code recorded. After (I think) 20 cycles of starting the car the code will reset. If at the 19th cycle you get another code then the counter will reset. Not sure why you would only get the SES light for 80 miles unless you stoped the car and started it a few times.

Actually, I did start and stop the car on a regular basis since the light first came on. I have a service appt. at my LR center for tuesday and then noticed while driving that the light was no longer on. Could it be the emissions reminder that set the light off?

Hi

For my '00 DII the service light also turned on at 68+k miles and less than 200 miles later it turned off. Now the shit is on again. I try not to worry but that light kinda freaks me out ( i'm used to no lights on my dash). Should I service the baby, is it asking for something in specific or is the dealer in need of some money?
OR SHOULD I JUST WAIT FOR A RED SERVICE LIGHT?

John

Get the OBD code from it to see what the problem is. Some autoparts places have a reader they will loan.

HAVE IT LOOKED AT, I ignored mine and now have to replace a blown starter and damaged flywheel as a result of coolant leaking into a cylinder and creating a sort of vapor lock. My .02

If the light says "Check Engine" it's a warning lights that needs to be checked out. If the light says "Service Engine", it is just a reminder that comes on every 52k or so.

Axel, Since he has a D2 he only has the SES light and it comes on when there is an OBD code registered.

I just bought a 99 Discovery II last week, a few days after I bought it the SES light came on. It stayed on for about a day and then went off, then on then off...you get the picture. Any ideas of an easy solution short of spending $90 at the dealership?
