I had noticed that some of you spoke of this problem some time ago. But I was unable to find out if anyone figured out what might be causing this problem. When I get going and step on my brake there is a knock from under my feet, just a single knock. I'm doing a full front a rear poly-bush install as well as dual front a rear shock mounts but I just wanted to get someone to let me know if this problem is related to either shocks or bushings. Thanks, Jason |

I have the SAME problem! I have tightened up every bolt in eye sight. I just went ofroad this weekend and it's worse. I REALLY don't want to go to the dealrship. Happens right at the last 2 inches or so of braking and RIGHT when I accelerate and I feel it right under my left foot. Only one small thump. |

I have had this happen from time to time. I feel a rubbing or something like that when I push the brake down. It seems to happen when braking on unsteady terrain. I have also felt the thump under my left foot too. |

this may seem odd... but check the bolts that hold the driver seat. that was one the cause of one of my clunkings. |

I tried to tighten those GIGANTIC nuts on the radius arm.....couldn't even budge them a hair!! It SLIGHTLY flexed with the direction of the wrench! I couldn't even imagine getting it off to replace the bushings! I have tightened up every nut and bolt in sight and I still get that sound when I come to a stop! Feel it RIGHT UNDER my foot. Has gotten worse since I went offroading this weekend. |

Joe - how about the radius arm outrigger mount - bushings could be shot or nut could be loose there (it's a 1 3/16") Bill |

Couldn't even tell you what I tightened. Only had my Disco for 6 months........I'm converted from the jee p Wrangler world where I did absolutely all my own work by trial and error following the shop manual. I don't have ANY manual for my rover as of just yet. So, I don't know what the names are for each part. If I see a bolt in reach, I tighten it. I'm leary about just tightening all bolts TOO much. I met a dud here in San Diego who appears to have some mechanical experience with Rovers. We'll hook up this weekend and hopefully solve the mystery. Any other suggestions, in the meantime, keep 'em flowing!! |

Joe, by tightening the nuts on the radius arms you don't take up the slack in the bushing. It has a steel sleeve over the radius arm, and two steel washers pressed on it on both ends - you can't compress the steel sleeve! Have someone rock the truck outside while you're watching the movement. There should be no free play in the radius arm bushings (more than the flex the rubber allows). If you see any, it's time to replace them. The big ones at the end - if you're in a hurry or don't want to buy new ones, you can pry a steel washer off the sleeve, put a donut made out of 1/4" rubber sheet between the old bushing and washer, and reassemble it making sure the washer gets back on the sleeve. It will work for many miles. peter |

I think it is the radius arm. I'm replacing all of my front a rear bushings. I'll let you guys know how it goes. Thanks for all your help. I didn't realize that so many people had the same problem. It's good to have friends. Thanks, Jason |

I had the same thing and it went away after I replaced the front rotors and pads. A new front drive shaft may help also. |
