I have heard of some people removing the shield on the inside of the brake disk that supposedly shields the brakes from dirt/mud. I would like to take the rear off and maybe the front for simplicity and appearance issues. Would like to hear your opinions. Brett Gottdener |

I took that crap off long ago. It doesn' shield anything. All it does is allow mud to cake up next to the rotor, and hold in rocks to make it sound like your wheel bearings have let go. -P |

I took the rears off, piece of cake, just make sure to use some knocker loose first, I busted two of the bolts. On the D2, the fronts are not as easy to remove (I think the hub has to come off), will do that next time my front end comes apart. |

Took the rears off of my 1996 the other day and I think it even helps cool the rotors more as well as not allowing the mud to cake up behind there. Definitely lose those things!! |

Mike, I just took the fronts off tonight while looking at my front bearings. There is no need to drop the hub for this. All you need to do is remove the steering stop bolt (count the turns it takes to remove it so it goes back on properly) This nut and bolt are both 3/4" and then a 10mm bolt on the bottom on the shield. Once this is loose just slide it out. Now for the rears... |
