My 1999 TD5 Disco has just developed a whistling noise as you coast along. It stops as you accelerate and comes back when you ease off the power. It seems to be coming from the gear box area. I am interested to hear from anyone who may have this same noise or a problem related to this noise. |

Sure it's not whine from the transfer case? |

I've got it too...kind of a quite whine. Definitely a gear-on-gear noise. I've heard the same noise in other transmissions (like in my dad's 5-liter Mustang) and I wouldn't really know the severity. It could be time to change the fluid and oil in the tranny and transfer box. Of course, there could also be excessive endplay in one of the gear-sets...do you have a manual and do you downshift and engine brake a lot? |

The Dealer I puurchased it from told me it is a noise in the transfer case and not to worry at this stage. Sounds like it could be trouble in the future ?? what do you think . It is an auto and no I don't downshift and engine brake very much. |

Does anyone have a Disco that *doesn't* do this ? It comes as part of the standard equipment package as far as I've heard. Matt. |
