2000 DII: After a brief warm up, I shifted to drive (moving the lever fairly quickly). First time it happened both "sport" & "manual" lights on the dash started flashing and when I applied the gas, it seemed that the transmission was in low gear. Second time, both lights appeared and I immeadiately turned engine off (without trying to move forward)and removed the key. Both times after I shut the engine off and re-started all was normal. Happened twice this week. Anyone experienced this before? Was I shifting through the gears too fast and confusing the transmission or should I be more concerned? I have 49,100 miles and would like to get it to the dealer ASAP before the 50,000 mile mark. Thanks in advance for any feedback. |

Steve Call the dealership asap and ask them if you can drive to them or if they should come trailer you back. I don't have my shop manual right here (its in the car if you desperately want) but I remember its the most serious signal from the transmission ecu. |

It has done it to me twice - check your manual. I took mine in and they said it was nothing - translation - "we have no idea". It seems to do it when I am parked on a steep hill and then place the truck in drive. It feels like the transmission is out of line (for a lack of a more techincal term ). Bottom line i would take it in since you are still under warranty. When I took mine in last time it did it I ended up with a totally unrelated valve job - $2600 covered on their dime. If i find the codes in my workshop manual i will repost. |

It should store faults in the EAT (Electronic Automatic Transmission) ECU. I would at least get it documented that you have a problem before the magic 50k mark. |

Mine did at 74k and i needed a new transmission. If you call them, they'll tell you trailer it in. I would and at least get it on file that you had issue with it. |

Thanks for the feedback. The dealer will have it on Wednesday morning. According to the manual, if the situation I describe happens, shut-off and re-start is recommended. I have driven it without incident for several days. Dealer did not have recommendations about not driving. Anyway, it will be in the shop and have the problem recorded at about 49,500 miles. Hopefully not a big deal, but we will see.
