In your opinions which of the two do you all like the best. OME or Bilstein? Thanks!

those with OME will say OME......those with Bilstein will say....well you get the idea. no issues with my OME after about 20K+. and the price is right. check with nathan at [email protected] for a decent price.

Hey Tom,

You like the stock ones just fine, as in don't replace it until needed? Or, when comes time to replace go with stock over OME, or anything else??? Curious because Woodchuck, or whateverthefuck they call the stock shocks, seem to suck really bad! Any thoughts on the stock shocks? Thanks

Sorry,

I replaced stock with stock. First one lasted around 45K, second one (which is actually stock from d-90 used with rockware relocation kit) is 30K old and works fine still.

Never tried the OME or Bilstein, so it could be a lot like beer. Miller Lite was great until I had Sam Adams, Guinness, etc. :)

Stock shocks...no thoughts, really, they worked fine when I was stock, I guess.

Woodchuck... that's cute.

I switched from the stock shocks to OME MD 2 years ago and thought it couldn't be any better. I switched onto Bilsteins last week and my feeling is they are better on road and off. I have not tried the OME HD so I cannot comment on those.

My Disco had the "cute woodchucks" on when I bought her. Truck had almost 100k on it and I'm not sure if they were original or not, but if they weren't they were replaced with OEM. After laboring about which shocks to go with, went with the Bilsteins. WOW!!! Onroad MUCH better! Offroad, not tested yet. Bilsteins were highly recommended, but when asked about the steering dampner all said stay away from Bilstein in that dept. OME, they said, was the way to go! Not sure who makes the OEM dampner but if it's the same company that makes the woodchucks I'd stay away! Just my opinion!!!

100K on the stockers. If original, those puppies would definately be very, very tired.

i've had woodchuck draft cider. does this count? does OME make a cider? beer? i think i am onto something.

:)

ps: in my second comment i was refering to billie's....not woodchucks.

When relocating my steering damper, I had to change to a defender style damper.

I bought a bilstein... but if I knew it at that time, I would have bought an OME.

The bilstein damps really OK, but my steering pulls to one side... and only since I changed the damper.

This damper always tries to extend if you leave it as is... therefore, it tries to push the drop arm to the left... and the truck pulls to the left... hey that's strange :-) !!!

My 2 cents

Regards.

So just to sum things up,

Billies = Damper sucks rats rectum, pulls to one side

Woodchuck = Makes great draft cider and horrible shocks and dampers.

Ole Man Emu = The damper to get, in Defender style w/relocation kit

Right???

JRoc,

I don't know how anyone in his clear mind would use an _OLD_ Bilstein steering damper. Bilstein was making gas-charged shocks that are awesome, but they extend if left on their own. So did their old steering damper. Reportedly, they have come with a new design that does not self-extend.

FWIW, I have Bilsteins on the Disco, woodheads on the rangie, and OME steering dampers on both. BOth are excellent.

Speaking of relocating kit - yes, you protect the $50 steering damper, at the expense of lost feeling of possible odds in the front suspension (loose ball joints, shimmying wheels, etc.).
