Has anyone done a Viscous clutch on the 4.0 engine - I'm trying to replace mine at the moment - The trouble I'm having is that I can't get the water pump pulley to stay put while I undo the large nut - Do I need a special tool for this ?

Thanks

Jeff

I went to Autozone and got a fan clutch removal tool on their tool loan program. It has a big tuning fork looking thing in it that will fit between the bolt heads on the pully behind the fan clutch. It is still a pain to get off but this helps some. Charles

Thanks - I'll try and track down a decent size auto zone - the one local to me doesn't even stock landy air filters :^)

does anyone know where the connector is to attach the fault code reader on an early 96 disco? It's apparently not near the steering column and there's nothing under the passenger seat as has been suggested on other posts.

The fan clutch tool will help remove the nut but will not help on keeping the pump from spinning. You can either wedge something in between the pulley and the pump or hold the pulley with one hand as your turn the wrench with the other, that seemed to work for me!! Be carefull on spinning the belt in the opposite direction, for some reason my AC unit went out on me after I changed my VU but luckily it fixed itself back up!!! Also clean the rear of the radiator as this is the perfect time to do so!
