Hey,

My wife just called to tell me her 95 DI is dead, sounds like the starter.

Any ideas on how difficult it is to replace? Most of you guys know me, I'm a pretty good mechanic (water pump, PS, etc...) Anything out of the ordinary I should be aware of before heading in?

Thanks in advance,
Chuckster

chuck
just did mine at the weekend, 89 v8 disco but should be the same, but just before you do it just check that the solenoid is ok, as when i put my new one in turned the key after my first drive and found out the small wire with a snap conector came loose , not even a click from it . normally if the solenoid is ok and starter is jamming you will hear the solenoid click and no more. anyway , the heat sheild tends to get in the way but it is basically straight forward. diconect battery earth. diconect three main leads to solenoid all on same pin, and the small snap conector , then two bolts one on top of starter one from below ( mine were 8mm allen bolts, but they do vary)and presto out it pops , replace new one in same fashion, 45 mins work in all . well that was mine anyway. like i said think they are all pretty much the same.

I also did mine on my 95 Disco. I think it was an easy but dirty job, however you better have patience. Once I had the bolts off it was a pain trying to get it out of there. You gott angle it just right to squeeze it out of there. It won't come out from the bottom. Your going to have to pull it out from the top. I had to climb on the top of the engine to get leverage to pull the sucker out. Most important thing!! Remember what wires go where and disconnect your battery.. Its easy putting a new back in. Good luck, Glen H

Thanks guys... After a long ride down to the truck on Cape Cod, I found the problem. The positive battery cable had rotted off at the starter.

I just tried to order a new one, but all the cables I see are different than mine...??? The cable that rotted had one lead from the battery clamp that went down to the starter, and another lead that fed up into a fuse box next to the battery. Both leads were connected to one battery clamp. The new cables I see are just a single lead from the battery to the starter.

All you Rover dealers and parts dealers lurking out there, can you help me out with that? What's the deal? I'd rather not hack in that fuse box lead...

Thanks all,
Chuckster
