Hi Folks, I tried to lock my '96 Discovery SD with the remote today- no joy. I locked it with the key, but when I returned and unlocked the p/s door, the alarm went off- and no amount of pushing the buttons on the remote made any difference. I put a new battery in, still nothing. Any ideas? Cheers! Paul. |

When you put the new battery in, did you resynchronize the remote? I'm not sure it's required after you change the remote battery, but it's worth a try. Instructions are in your owners manual. |

I have had similar problems on my '98 Disco XS. The dealer said that in some areas there are interference from cell-phone masts etc, that might cause this issue. But then you might expect it to happen at the same place/area every time and not randomly (i.e. work one day but not the next day at the same place/area). You should however have an "emergency access code" which allows you to enter a combination of key turns in the driver side door and then disable the alarm and the immobiliser if that is fitted. Memorise this code - and practice using it - it WILL come in handy some day - believe me (And it will most certainly be 11 pm, sunday night and raining as well...) Eventually I had my car/alarm ECU tested at a dealer and they could not find any problems. I also got a new (spare) remote and everythhing now works fine (fingers crossed knocking on wood).

Paul, I too have a '96. If I use the key to unlock and open any door other than the drivers door, the alarm goes off. Maybe a feature, maybe a bug. |

I'm a '96 and the remote wouldn't work, the dealer who i bought from didn't know why it wasn't working. so i tried leaving the battery out of the remote overnight and next afternoon put in a new battery and it worked |

Hi Guys, well, I tried this and that- to no avail. Then I took the battery out to check the connections- the gold part under where the battery sits was pretty worn-looking, so I pushed the tab down with the point of my knife so it would make a better connection. Bingo! Works fine. Thanks for the suggestions! |
