Water is leaking from the bottom of the rear passenger side speaker in my 96 D1. I surmise that it must be coming from the alpine window on that side, but I can't find it! This only seems to happen in very hard rain (cannot be duplicated in the car wash).

The only thing is, the seal around the opposite side alpine window has a "lump" in it and a tiny rust spot below it. I'm taking it to a body shop to have it inspected. That side must be leaking. The question is, could the water leaking from the speaker be coming from a crack in the gutter or somwhere else?

Mattew,

F*ck your luck trying to find where it's coming in, Land Rover's are notorious for it.

If it's only happening when driving along, then it may be spray being caught in the vortex behind the vehicle, and it may be "sucked" in through the door seal. If you smear a film of vaseline around the seal, shut the door then look to see where the vaseline has transfer on to the paint, you can check to see if it touches all the way round.

The alpine windows may be the cause, the roof is one of the few steel panels on a disco and can rust.

Also, just because the water is coming out in one place, it may be getting in several feet away and funning along internal braces etc.. before coming out.

Sorry I can't be of much more help, but I do know how frustrating it is.

I had the EXACT same problem. It ended up being the rear sunroof track was slightly cracked and was letting in a small amount of water. Once the track was replaced, I never had water coming from the speaker again.

Happy Rovering!

Try cleaning or replacing the drain hoses on the rear sunroof.
