I bashed my winch this weekend due to the poor location of the winch in the airbag bar setup. (Please, no lectures on the choice of bar, I know already.) ARB has apparently quit making the add on guard that you could get to protect the winch. I checked a while ago through a vendor and got one story why and just called ARB and got another. Does anybody know who makes a guard for this application. Has anybody fabbed their own, it seems pretty simple? |

There is a brand new Tech article that includes some skid plates under the winch. He made a lot of mods to his ARB, so it may not apply. Just a thought. |

Scott, I'm curious. What part of the winch did you bash? I am assuming it was the fairlead. Brian |

No, I bent the bar that goes across the cable and scuffed the gear case. On this bumper the winch hangs behind and below the bumper, which is the problem. |

Scott, Perhaps you should give Maurice a call? |

I'm afraid I don't know Maurice. Why should is it that I should call him? |

Actually, one of rugged rovers' skids might do the trick. 1/3" bullet proof steel is about what you need up front. Maybe Maurice can fill this void Scott, I made my own skid for the air bag ARB after I modified the bumper. The write up is in the tech section. If you are going to fab your own, you might want to look at how RTE (and I think SG) connect their skids to the cross rail. I believe they use a clamp system so no welding is necessary. For the front end, I recall the ARB has two bolt holes along the leading edge and these should work ok to secure the plate. Best of luck. And get that winch covered before you destroy it. |
