I've been told that I can wire up my head unit the the amp driving the sub in the rear door using a standard RCA lead. I've purchased said RCA lead, taken off all the covers to get to the amp, and now I find two connectors. One is to the speakers, black and while cables, and a 4 pin connector, the other has about 9 wires going into it of various colours. Which of these wires to I splice my RCA cable into to get the sub working again? Some kind and generous soul did email me a diagram of the wiring on the sub, but in a totally "don't have a clue, don't give a sh*t" kind of way, my wife deleted the email from my hotmail account. Any help appreciated, I've got the rear door in pieces, and I'm up to my shoulders in Land Rover. Having fun though, so that's what counts. Thanks all H RNESS |

Horness, You can run the factory amp, speakers, and subs by using the line level (RCA) out of your head unit. You'll probably need a pair of ground isolators (transformers) to eliminate ground loop noise. Install them between the head unit and the factory harness. See diagram below. Let me know if you have any more questions. David

Er... Do you have a real piccie of this thing installed? It would help me visualise it. I presume I need a VW harness adapter, and my 6m RCA lead. I wire the 4 positives up to the respective + on my RCA lead, and the two negatives to the respective outer shields of my RCA lead. I plug the RCA plugs into my head unit, and then where does this harness adapter fit? Between the sub and it's connector? Any help appreciated - also, where can I get these bits from? Many thanks H RNESS |

Horness, Sorry, I don't have any real pix of the stuff. (I really need to get a digital camera!) You are correct about the VW harness adapter and its wiring. Just be sure to use the diagram that I posted for your connections as the VW wiring is a little different even though the connector is the same. The adapter is plugged into the factory harness that the factory radio was plugged into (behind the head unit). Connect the power leads (constant +12v, switched +12v, Remote turn-on, ground) to your new head unit. Solder RCA connectors onto the audio leads and connect them to the ground isolators outputs and then the ground isolator inputs to the line level outs on your new head unit. With regards to places you can get the parts, I purchased the VW harness adapter from Circuit City. It's made by Metra, part number 70-1784. The ground loop isolators are available from Radio Shack, part number 270-054. You can probably find both items at any car stereo install shop. Let me know if you need anything further! David |

I checked out the link with the diagram... It's close, but it doesn't match up with what's in a Disco. It must be for a Rangie or something else. David |
