I recent saw a Disco with roof rails that ran the whole length on the roof, not like the standard ones the just run about half way. Has anyone else seen these? If so where can I get them? Thanks.

At the dealer. They are for a Discovery II, and are called extended roof rails. The set comes with 2 crossbars. They are $379 installed. The crossbars are locking.

Will they fit a Disco 1?

You can see most current exterior options and colour combinations by going to "www.landrover.com ... United States ... Build a Land Rover", then go through the steps and chose the appropriate options (Adventure in this case).

Another place is http://www.roverconnection.com/.

I don't think it will fit a shorter Disco 1. The roof rail extensions take advantage of hidden mounting points in the roof of the Disco 2. You would have to see if those exist in the Disco 1.

I have the extended rails and I am happy with them. I like the look better without them (in fact I like the look of the Adventure Rack best of all), but I decided that the rails would be more versatile for carrying loads (canoes, extra bikes and lumber in my case) than the Adventure Rack. I can also still get into underground parking garages.

While you can get them from the dealer, I ordered mine from Rover Connection for a lot less and installed them myself. See http://www.roverconnection.com/Disco%202%20Acc/d2rail.htm.

It's not that hard, but if you're not comfortable removing interior panels and drilling holes in your roof, pay the dealer.

Instructions on how to do it yourself can be found at http://www.disco2.com/howto/how-traveller/how-roofrails.html, but they get a few things wrong (like the part number, for one).
