Greetings everyone. I recently got a 1999 DI and have been lurking on the Dweb. Today we took it out for the first time wheeling and I crunched the muffler pipe ahead of the 2nd muffler and by the tip. Why do they have two of them? Can I remove the rear one? Should I change out anything else under there?

Thanks,
Jim

a lot of us just removed the rear resonator and replaced it with a "straight" pipe. tucked up there.

No "excessive" noise increase? I like the idea already.

Love the pic by the way. Do you have a closer one? BTW... I am looking for specs of rigs that you are all running. What is the recipe for the HOmobile?

the cheap way to do it is very easy and cost under 6.50 in parts...get the Napa 2.5 inch inner diameter pipe that is 18 inches long, and a 2.5 exhaust clamp. Hacksaw off the resonator just on the far side of it(after the exhaust hanger) clamp on the new pipe , and your good to go.
Can email a pic of mine tommorow if needed.

noise ain't so bad.
idle and coasting noise is about same.
full throttle is a bit louder.

i just went to the corner muffler shop, gave the guy 10 bucks, and he welded the piece there for me. 2 minutes. :)

I bent my exhaust on the trail too. So much that the engine died on me. Got out, took my hack saw out and solved the problem. If I snag that bugger now, I'll have plenty of other things to worry about.

I cut the exhaust between the axel and gas tank. Nothing better than a free mod.
