Is really a warning light present?
Hand brake does light it up, fluid level too.
Mine is a TDI 300 Discovery.

There is no brake pad warning light in the Disco, you have to visually inspect the pads.

there is a light that will come on to tell you that you are low on brake fluid.

it is the same light that is one if your hand brake is on.

no light to tell you your pads are low.

Thank you
In User manual in spanish is to read, that when key is twisted to "start" position, brake light comes on, and that there is to indicate low pad, too. As I don´t find cables in brake calipers, i suspected what you confirm.
TDI 200 Discos have this warning with a yellow light...

99% of the time when you are low on brake fluid your pads are about toast.

So even though it is not designed that way, if you are concious of setting the fluid level right with new pads you can use it as such.

Don't know for Romulus-type, but Jays do have a sensor on inner RH sides; funny thing if they didn't fit them on newer vehicles. You will see a socket and two tiny wires running into pad if you have it.

If you don't have them, don't worry, as any Disco will probably wear unevenly from RH to LH and from inner to outer pad.

Only safe way is to service vehicle, i.e. check pads visually from time to time - more often when pads get older and lining thinner.

Take this as a VERY rough guide: Porter manual says they wear out @:
Front pads: 25-30.000km
Rear pads: 60-70.000km
(If you can't find Porter manual, check out Kyles window...)

Roverly Yours, Frode
