Ive tried to find it in the web and I find nothing:(
Does any of you something about this?
I have the CB lift and no rack.
Of course I know it depends of what speed I have what load etc, etc.
I want to know for the stationary rollover angle.

Ok it seems that everyone says it is 45°.
But is this angle for the left-right or for the front-rear axis? Or is it the same for both?
Personally I think that if it is for the front-rear its ok. But if it is for the left right, I think it is to much... or I depreciate my Car?

Petros;

Your Disco started depriciating the minute you drove it off the dealers lot.... :)
Seriously, the max theoretical side angle for a stock Disco is 45 degrees. The real maximum of course depends on how the car is loaded, if it is lifted or not, what kind of surface, how fast you are going and so on. However, as a rule of thumb, go by the seat of your pants. You will be in "oh shit" mode long before you roll in most cases.

Axel,

Are U sure? I rollovered my 92 4runner once and I didn't sense anything. I'm not afraid of any injury or something like that, but I have on my mind the intact of my Disco:)

45?

read in a LRO magazine where the tested a bunch of trucks.

disco full of gas with two 200lb adults was 39 Degrees

LWB rover was 41 degrees same thing full 2 people

toyota LC 42 degrees won the test

think they where at road pressure on the tires

lower pressures would stretch it farther

Lower pressure would make it worse !!! :) Not to mention if you pop a bead on that off camber...

By accident, I had my 95 disco on a 42 degree angle last weekend. I have stock suspention and had about 350lbs of gear in the back. And yes... I almost shit myself!

I said theoretical limit. I would never attempt 45 degrees in real life.

I don't know what the angle on those Rover dealership test hills is, but I know it's a steep side hill. A friend of mine at Land Rover told me a customer just flipped a brand new Disco over on the dealership track here in Calif. My hair starts to stand on the back of my neck at 30%. There is a guy under "Events" and then 8th Annual Joe Lucas... line that rolled his truck end over end. I am trying to get some more info from him on that thread. I want to know how well the roof posts hold up. I have been looking at the internal cages. The wife will love it!

FWIW (if I'm remembering correctly.. this was a few years ago) but I believe the owner of the Greensboro, NC dealership once told me test track side tilts were 37 degress-

Neal,

Do you have any pics of that 42° angle?
It will be usefull to see how a vehicle looks like in this angle.

it is published in the manual that comes with the car that 42 deg is the limit, i think this is stated for several reasons.

1.) probably rolls at 45 and they put in margin for error.

2.) the engine/fuel pump quit running (inertia switch)at somewhere above 45 deg as a safety feature incase of rollover.

3) oil and other critical fluid starvation will begin to occur after 42 deg. so even though you can do 43,44 or 45 shit aint getting lubed well at all. heck even at 39 deg i bet you're doing damage.

FWIW,

end-to-end is definitely more than 45 degrees, but it'll lose oil pressure at about 45 deg. nose up. At 45 deg. side tilt there's a chance of engine damage because of oil piling up inside the lower cylinder bank (which would be horizontal).

the "oh shit" feeling is greatly reduced in the range rover (with no sway bars, compared to disco with both attached).

heavy-duty springs and max. pressure in the tires definitely help both to stay with the rubber side down.

Rob,

I'm asking for safety reasons only. Personally I think that I will not go any further than 35° at my own. I want only to know when starting traversing a 5 meter long steep hill for example and my clinometer says 35deg, that I have a safety limit of another 7deg. Its safety to know the real limits of your truck, and... of yourself!

FWIW, IMHO, etc. ... So many variables. Like Axel, Kyle, Peter, and many of the rest were referring to ... you could roll just about anywhere ... things like losing a wheel, terrain can give way, the list goes on and on ... As for the angle, I'm usually at the "Oh Shit" stage most of the time anyway when following my buddies (I have both sway bars connected and I'm a scardy cat)

Petros,

my personal observation - when the going gets in the "oh shit" territory, you may not have time or want to look at your clinometer. Like, everything goes fine, clinometer (last checked) reads safe 35 degrees, and all of a sudden your lower rear wheel falls between two rocks, or slips off the ledge... so it's all theory.

is that a puke stain down the side of the driver's door in that pic? This position would make it easier to work on the undercarriage!

If I owned a clinometer, which I don't, I would have put the truck in reverse long before 35 degrees! I'd rather trust the pucker factor - it rarely needs recalibrating.

i don't know about the puke stain, Chris W sure didn't look like he was going to lose it :) you can see him handing out his camera to get a shot.
this place repeatedly sends discos into a position like this.

but it's not _that_ steep. This is steeper

LR's 45 degrees is measured on a static tilt table with no load.....Add all kinds of stuff that we tend to do and the figure could go in any direction...FWIW the truck will begin to feel light as you get close to the limit....That picture of my truck in the phot gallery about to fall over sideways into about three feet of water was quite enough for me to evacuate my five year old- about 35 degrees, but at a compound angle which are more dangerous....

Petros,
I have an ok pic but it's on my other computer. Email me at [email protected] and I will send it. Eventually I will be able to email the video.

But I thought the reason why we do all of this is to keep it in the pucker-factor zone, just for the fun of it....
