With all the talk about this company lately, I thought I would check them out for myself. I was looking at there diff guards. Has anyone bought one before, and what do you think? I know the galvanized ones are suppose to be the best. I like how beefy and well constructed they look, and the price seems pretty good too. Anybody have any other places that sell the galvanized ones (i want a good quality diff guard)? After all, if you buy one of the best 4x4s, why not buy the best 4x4 gear? You get what you pay for! (most of the time)

Thanks, Matt

Yea I bought one from David. It was at a good price and seems to be very beefy. It was an easy install too (didn't need to take any steering links off).

All of that is good, but you want to hear about the test eh? Well I went and pushed my diff into a muddy enbankment and found a rock. The diff quard didn't even scratch. It did its job well. After I got through the obstacle, I looked at the rock and it was one of those pointy ones. I'm fairly sure I would have had some front end issues if I hadn't had that diff guard.

I say call up and get one b/c it seems like the best for my rover.

I've been trying to contact Thatched Roof about Safety Devices stuff for the past couple of weeks. No answer and no return on the voice mails.

I know that he has a good reputation and I've had good experience dealing with him before, but I was wondering if anyone knew what was up. Is he just swamped with work or closed?

Thanks,
Nathan Hindman

Nathan,

He was gone to England for a week and a half, at the first of the month, and has been very swamped since, staying on the phone a lot.... but he has been doing a LOT of work out away from the phone (tearing up asphalt, framing for the replacement concrete, pouring, etc., etc.). He's also been doing a lot more of the errands that take him out of the shop... (he doesn't like to be away from the phone, but when you're a one-man shop, it's hard to do-it-all). Jeff and I help where we can, but sometimes, things have to be delivered or dropped off when we can't help do it as much at the moment, so that leaves him to do it, leaving the phone.

He'll return your call when he can at an appropriate time (he doesn't want to call people after-hours, because he doesn't want to disturb them when they don't want to be disturbed, etc.)... Many times, I'll be by, and we'll never get to talk because he'll be on the phone non-stop the entire time I'm there.... so I just wave hi, hang out, then wave bye.... Usually, it's off from one call, right to the next call.

Email works well, BTW.... :-) thatched@usit.net
