Cleaning contacts on starter and ground.

However, I assume that even to do that I will have to take off heat shield which seems like it is going to be a problem. Are there any secrets to getting the shield off or cleaning the contacts without taking off shield?   Jack Quinlan (Jsq) Senior Member Username: Jsq Post Number: 464 Registered: 10-2002 Posted on Saturday, September 20, 2003 - 06:02 pm:    it is held on by one bolt towards the front of the truck. after that its just a clip which attaches to the starter. shouldn't be hard to remove at all. it's a tight space but you should be able to get at everything without removing anything else.
