After installing a couple of new batteries into my DII yesterday, my ABS system is complaining. Do I need to take this to the dealer to clear the code, or does the ABS system need to be reset in some way? |

Eric: From what I have learned, post '96 Rovers suffer memory meltdown when the battery is disconnected. Yes, I also consider this to be less than Good Engineering Practice, but it was described to me that the engineers expected the battery to last a long time. As for corrective action, I believe that you may well have to go to the dealer to have this resolved. In the future, should you need to disconnect the battery, some have suggested that one should maintain power to the ECU and associated electronics through the cigarette lighter. My fear is that following this advice, one loses the safety aspects of de-energizing one's vehicle. I have also learned that post-'96 Rovers workshop manuals do not admonish one to disconnect the battery before performing service due to the likelihood of losing important engine operating parameters in memory. Pre-'96 workshop manuals directed the servicer to disconnect the battery before changing the oil-no foolin'! I've learned to like the orange light on my dashboard... Truck still seems to stop OK. Good luck Paul |

I've got three orange lights: ABS, ETC and HDC. I did have to stop very fast today, and the ABS did not kick in, but it never has since my tire upgrade. Poor pads and discs. My main worry is that the ABS pump lost prime or something, since it's now making a subtle buzzing noise at rest. I'll take it into the dealer, but I know they are going to charge me hours of non-warrentee time to flush the system or something. Any other advice anyone? |

Erik, Have you taken in your D2 for the ABS recall yet? Brian |

Every once in a while my ABS will act up and activate when on dry surface. This was mentioned in previous post about wanting to disconnect it . To fix all I do is shut the engine off put the car in neutral depress the brake pedal and restart the engine . You'll feel the brake ABS engage slightly which appears to reset the mechanism. This is only a suggestion ! please take your vehicle to a qualified tech if problems persist . I don't want to be responsible for any accidents, but this works for me every time. Ken 95, disco |
