my belt on the alternator is on wrong and thats why my tach isn't working i think i tried to loosen the 1/2 bolt in the center of the tensioner but can't crack it is the tensioner locked in place some other way also, maybe reverse thread or am i a sissy boy. |

I believe it is a 13 or 14 mm bolt, on the pulley it self that you need to use, you are not trying to loosen the bolt, you are using the bolt as a kind of leverage point to push down on the tentioner pulley. If you get a socket and ratchet or breaker bar on it, you should be about to push it down then remove the belt. I would suggest pushing down and removing the belt off of the alternator. You will understand when you try this.

is it spring loaded then because i see a matal tab coming out of the tensioner body. |

the metal tab coming out of the tensioner body is to hold the unit in place on the engine. The arm part of the tensioner is spring loaded. It will move in a downward motion when you attach the socket to the bolt at the pulley. Try to get the best leverage that you can on the pulley protion, with out breaking the fan that is. Than you will be pushing down and to the right. Hope this helps. |

FWIW the tensioner arm is 15mm on my 95. Rotates clockwise about ten degrees to allow fitting of belt. e |

It is spring loaded and self-tighnening. |

yep all done and thanks to everyone here my tach is working perfect again and to greg yes it is spring loaded and self tightening not so hard to do when you get good advice. thanks guys |
