on the way to the mountains... after we were about half way there i got some gas, and reset the odometer, come to find out, about 2.2 miles later the speedometer, trip counter, and odometer were not turning... a good while later on the windy switch backs going up to my friends lake house the car shut off right as i came to the top... then on the way down this small mountain, more like a hill since were in Georgia... it shuts off yet again... then lastly going down the hill again it shut off... since then the speedo worked... now every time that it shut off, it started right back up, and the last time i remember the speedo working, since then we made it to the camp site, and all the way back home, and i've driven her around the last couple of days.... i have no idea what it is... please help i don't think it has anything to do with it, but i do run 89 octane in it, and i have only had this one for 2 weeks... i had a 1995 which got wrecked, and so i replaced her with this one... thanx in advance...

this is the same problem i had in my 97 disco i haven't figured it out yet but my code reader said two faults one was IDM: Injector Driver Module and the second was cylinder misfire my speedo only quit for a while then started working the next time i drove it. the only thing different is that mine never shut off but did cut in and out after going up hills or normal driving then my check engine light came on and that is the codes i got. |

Sounds like the speed sensor has failed. I'd suggest you change it and see what happens. It's located on the left side of the transfer case. |

Sounds like only 2 things that it could be: sticky valves or VSS..... |

VSS, it controls the speedo and if it fails the vehicle can stall when going from high speed to stop. The ECU is confused about how fast you are going and it's making the engine misfire to compensate. |
