Hey folks, I had a bit of a weird electrical problem this past weekend and wanted to see if anyone has every heard of this or give me a clue as to where to start looking. On a road trip back my signal lights started flashing. Both came on so it looked like it was my hazards but my hazard light switch wasn't turned on nor was the hazard indicator flashing. It so happened to be raining at this point, not sure if that's important info or not but thought I'd mention it. When I turned the hazard switch on, the hazard indicator would flash but so would the trailer light but if you listened to the "tick" sound of the light going on and off, you could hear two distinct sets of sounds. One for the original flashing from before and then a second set for the hazard. If I switch the hazard off, the hazard "tick" stopped but the lights continued to flash with its own "tick" sound. It stayed this way all the way home and when I shut the truck off and pulled the key the lights continued to flash. I had to pull the fuse for the signal indicators to get it to stop. That seems to have reset whatever the problem was as it hasn't happened since but I wonder if this isn't just a sign that something is about to go. Thanks for any help you can give. |

Sounds like you got a short somewhere when it got wet...sorry but I have no idea where to look for that except under the dash.... |

I had a similar problem when I was installing a new stereo. I was finishing the speaker wiring under the dash, passenger side, placing the panel back in place, all of sudden the flashers came on? I did not have the thing running. I believe I pulled a fuse and all was ok??? |

You must've hit a bump or something that would trigger the inertia switch. This is a feature where if you were in an accident, it will automatically unlock the doors and activate your flashers. Turning the key off for at least 5 minutes resets them. Your power door locks will also not work for the next 5 minutes after the restart. If that doesn't do it, there is an intertia switch on your firewall that you can push to reset. Glenn |

I agree with Glenn. I've had this happen a number of times after hitting a big bump or when I was going to fast on washboard forest service roads. |

Thanks guys. I haven't had any problems since that night but I know what to look for the next time it happens. |
