My key is stuck in the ignition and I can't get it out. Yesterday the fuse for the turn signals blow the trans level was stuck in park until I replaced the fuse. It took a hour on the side of the road to figure that out. An hour I could of been fishin. Also the select leveler for the trans will go from park to low 1 while the truck is going down the road. Anyone got a suggestion to fix the problem. |

Mine does that some. If I start it again then turn it off and make sure the steering wheel locks the key comes out. |

I've done that multiple times to no avail thanks. I believe mine has something to do with the selector level no locking into park or any other position. It does lock into park when the key is turned to position 2. The key won't go to position 1. |

Have you tried driving it a little to move the gears? Reverse back and forth a couple of times then try again. |

Mine use to do that, but just stopped one day and hasn't done it since. When it did get stuck I use to take the shift lever and move it back and forth from the park position. It would always work for my problem. |

I had the same problem, it would initially work free, and happened only intermittently. One one final occassion it would not release the key regardless of what we tried. I finally had to get CAA to pickup it up (literally) and transport it to the dealer. It required a new assembly, key and all. I managed to get my dealer to pay for it as it happened shortly after I purchased it, but I remember it was at least a few hundred dollars. I refused to pay to have all other locks "retumbled", and now have 1 key for ignition, and the old key for everything else. |

Gone in sixty minutes!or less the ignition switch assembly can be removed very easily, takeoff the plastic cover that goes around the column just behind the wheel. there are three screws from the bottom, then there are two bolts that hold the switch to the steering column. they have no head(just round) use a chisel and hammer and walk them out. now there are two small set screws that hold the round black electrical portion to the back of the switch . remove them.you can now use a screwdriver to start your truck via the electrical part thats swinging to the left. now take your switch to a locksmith, a real locksmith not home depot. and see if they can perform some magic for ya. if not be prepared to replace it to the tune of $300 + dollars. yes your truck will operate with the ignition switch out, it will shift and drive normally. but your column will look like something, well lets just say keep your ID on you. |

Right now I don't care!!! It makes me laugh. I leave the key in it and the lock the doors with the another key. Where I live it is safe enough to leave the doors on your rig unlocked and no one usually steals it. They might steal stuff inside of it but not the rig. There are only two highways and at one point and time you have to get on one of them to get out of the area. Mountains on all sides are bad for car thieves. |

Brian, I may have misunderstood. I couldn't ANYTHING with the key, turn or remove. It was like it was stuck in a block off cast iron. It sounds as though you're still mobile. Best of luck. |

What's that solenoid called that requires transmission to be in "Park" to release key? Maybe that's gone bad and is refusing to release yer key. This happened on my truck, and you can disconnect this "feature" (as if you'd take the key out in reverse!) by doing this: Remove the plastic cover between the instrument cluster and the steering wheel. There's a group of wires running from the key cylinder (tracing the wires wasn't that hard) to a white connector nearby. Disconnect the connector and try it then. I've driven my truck like this for 2+ years without incident... Andy |

Andrew is right, there is a sensor that isn't working right. I had this problem come up several times untill I had the ignition replaced. The way the dealer had me work around the sensor is to do the following. On your rear window you have a defroster and hot brake wire that can be seen by the glass, what you would do is take brake wire and insert it in the defroster (you may need a paper clip) then turn on the defoster this will send power to the sensor telling your ignition that the truck is in park and your brake has been applied this will allow the key to turn off. Once the defroster is turned on you do need to quickly turn off the ignition. I know this sounds wacky and when they told me to do this I was like "what the hell," but it works. Goodluck, and getting the ignition replaced is the only way I was able fix it. It was covered under warranty for me so check with your dealer. |

Rick Warranty? That would be nice but that has long since disappeared at 112000 miles and at 30000miles a year it didn't last long. It is these little problems that keep me laughin. I'll try your suggestions(Andrew and Rick) and thanks again |

You're very welcome -- it's been awhile since I've nailed a diagnosis around here!
