I ran into these guys at Summit Lake which is 2/3 the way up Mount Evans outside of Denver Colorado. Needless to say, they were not too pleased when I pulled up and started taking pictures.

Way to go Joel! Good Game on the photos!

Looks like they are keeping the raised roof trademark; though it is disguised. Also, what happened to the spare tire?

Paul,

Bad news. The "raised roof" really ain't a raised roof. Its rolled on each side to make it look like its raised. Its kinda like the Freelander roof, it isn't raised but it looks like it.

The spare tire is now carried American Style: under the truck.

FWIW, I think the only cool thing about the new Disco is the urban camo paint job :-).

Underneath? Maybe opposite the rear air in the cargo area? :-)

I dig the headlights with the dark surrounding area -- too bad it's just disguise. And those wheels are nice, although a bit too "dub" for my taste...

Thanks Max.

What's up with the Battlestar Gallactica lights in the rear?

Still can't wait to see how they're dealing with the Explorer based suspension. I know on Explorers the rear components are about 3" off the ground and look totally unusable for any real off road work.

il ike the rear tailights with some work to polish the look off.

i've noticed the new big ass expedition or whatever seems to have the same headlight scheme that the RR, Disco and FL are now sporting.

LOL Paul. It ain't got no lights on the bumper!! Whats up with that!

It also looks like the disco is about the same size as that 03' RR. I wonder how they compare...

I hate it. I know it has been beat to death on this site but solid axles = truck. The only thing that would make that truck (car) worth it is if they had a nice torquey diesel that could run bio-diesel. That would be cool...

Three more years on my 97 disco that will put me at 200,000 miles and then I'm going back to a pickup. I've hauled a 1000 lbs worth of large rocks 20 times or more, towed my boat That thing looks more and more like shit everytime I see a new photo.

Is that an Alpine window above the back passenger doors? and drink holders in the front doors? It looks like the front half of the roof is raised instead of the back half like "normal" for Disco's.

Paul has it right with Mr. Vomit there....heads would be rolling already if I worked for Ford...and yet IMHO they did such a good job rescuing Jaguar from the crap in the early 1990s...be keepin' my 99 D2 for....well maybe as long as my 85 Saab 900T...(271K)

Everything I have heard is that DiscoIII was designed and developed by Land Rover not Ford. Land Rover presented the project and Ford gave it the OK, along with 3billion for development of Disco and other new models. Disco III is not Explorer based, Land Rover has openly stated new models will use their new LR designed T5 platform, with the independent suspension from new RR - which should be awesome off-road in stock form but a B*tch to modify further.
As far as looks go, I have to wait for the official photos. It sucks that the spare tire is moving under the rear, I'm sure someone will release aftermarket rear spare attachment similar to VW tourage and Cayenne attachment.
Independent suspension is probably a b*tch to modify but hopefully someone will release a mod kit.
I'm hearing that Disco's design will move closer to RR's instead of influence from Defender. Also, LR engineers have been seen testing Disco3 at Germany's Nurburgring circuit and is expected to handle great on road.
We will all see by this time next year. If your unhappy with Disco3 than you can wait a few more years for a new Defender, I think LR has droped their "lifestyle" Defender and will move forward with only a hardcore off-road version, which most people on this board would probably buy over a disco anyway. New Defender should be released around 2008 or 2010.
I hope this helps.

what i have read is that a chunk of land rovers design staff that has final say came from ford once they were bought by ford. so regardless of the shirt they wear, they bleed blue, not green...

imho.

Yeah, probably to get a hold on quality. Alot of key senior engineers are still at Solihull and Gaydon, UK. I've always said its not that American car companies can't make great cars, its just they don't because of the bean counters. Go over to any car company BMW, VW and you will find an international team of engineers. Its the corp. culture that breeds great products. As long as LR is left to do their own thing they should be OK. What I'm worried about is their integration with Jaguar. Land Rover said at Frankfurt they would no longer display their vehicles in offroad situations at autoshows - Geoff Upex LR chief Designer "We have nothing to prove any longer, and don't need to ram the point home".
Disco 3 was signed off by Wolfgang Rietzle New RR project lead before he left last year.
