I am not a Disco owner...yet. However, I am very interested. I need some technical expertise, or at least opinion. I want a manual trans Disco. Is there a year to look for that is "best" as far as drivetrain? And as a novice, other than seating capacity, what is the difference between an SE and SE7 D1? Thanks for any info.

boris-manuals in NAS D1s were in production from 94-97, though i've heard of a few as late as 1998. the numbers were small, like 500 or so trucks per year. in '96 they stepped up to the 4.0 from the 3.9 with some resulting troubles that first year with the 4.0 engine. the key is to look over the truck carefully and get your hands on service records to know how it was treated. at this age it is a crapshoot to find a truck that will last. check <http://www.robisonservice.com/servicedep/rover_advice1.asp> for a reasonable set of tips. as for the difference between SE and SE7 i think it is mainly seating, with a few other trim package items like roofs, power, etc. varying truck to truck. i have a '96 SE7 with all the bells and whistles and have learned that there is more to break on a loaded truck! hope that helps. cheers, carl |

I've read various stories about the unreliability of the manual transmission, but don't have any links. Maybe someone else does. Auto is better offroad too. |

The SE7 has dual A/C, which is nice if you live in a hot climate. I also agree that auto is better offroad. |
