Does anybody know how to replace or maybe fix the hood cable release on a DSII? It stoped working two days ago and I can't figure out how to fix it. It will only open if I pull it extremly hard with clippers. I took it to the dealer and they offered to fix it for $180 (labor & parts). Does any body know first, where to get the cable cheaper? and second how to replace it? Thanks Gus Moreno 2000 DSII |

$15 at atlanticbritish.com I replaced mine, (97 d1) and it took less than an hour. In a d1, the cable goes through a grommet in the firewall and runs along the side of the engine compartment next to the fender, then makes a turn by the lights and is attached to the hood latch. Before replacing it, you may want to check the adjustment screw, it may have loosened and therefore when you pull on the cable, it is not pulling the latch back enough to release. The adjustment screw is at the point where the cable attaches to the latch. |

The OEM cable is 32.29 and calls for 1.7 hours for R&I but shouldn't take that long. |

i just replaced the cable on my 99 D2 recently. It's a pretty trivial operation. The most complex part is taking all of the plastic parts off the front of the truck. It took about an hour. Just look at how the old one is attached before you remove it. Mike |
