I just took my Disco 1 to LR to have a noise diagnosed. They informed me that I needed new left and right rockers, power steering pump, and drive belt at a bargain price of $2041.46 (not including $105 for diagnosis). Does this sound reallllly expensive? Are these issues that must be handled by LR? Oh yeah, my warranty expired 5 weeks ago!
Thanks
Chad

no reason the dealer needs to do that stuff I say, take it to an indepedent. the dealer is going to be a ripoff. my D1 died at the dealer while I was picking up parts for something else, so I just had them look at it. if it wasn't such a huge hassle I would have towed it to my independent. bottom line is it cost me $600+ for a fuel pump and fuel pump wiring harness. RIPOFF.

yeah those are very basic items that most any mechanic can tackle. the power steering pump can be a big item though ($500), so check around for that for best prices.

what was the noise that you had diagnosed? Was it a shrieking cat sound? If so, you can do your own power steering pump with a salvaged pump and save that cash.

I have a knock coming from under my engine bay and one coming from the front of the engine (near the fan). I was told that the main noise was the power steering pump, which they want $628 for plus $262 labor to install it. I found the pump at RoversNorth for $319. Anyone familiar with thier parts? The "tapping" noise was diagnosed as rocker assemblies (L & R). They want $185 each and $500 labor. I'm having trouble finding the assemblies, considering I don't know what "assemblies" consists of! HELP

I had a similiar sound/problem. Try tightening you steering box bolts (the ones that attach the box to the frame) and all of the bolts for the steering rods. I cheated by taking the truck to NTB for an allignment and they tightened everything...Doug

This is a long shot but you say your warrenty just expired By time or by mileage? I would pull the entire service history of the car and count the number of days you were without your car for warrenty or recall issues. those days count as credit if your car is anything like mine you just mighrt have 5 weeks worth
