Hello All,

Anyone know how to change Transmission oil in an Automatic Trans 96 disco. I looked at the bottom of mine and found a small 3" round plate with three bolts on it. Is the filter inside this plate? and how much does LR want for a new filter?
Thanks in advance.

You have to drop the pan which requires moving the x memeber to change the filter.

Filter is like $20 plus gasket and o rings

That little plate is on the bellhousing of the transmission. The only thing you will see if you remove the plate is the outside of the torque converter.
You need to look about a foot further towards the rear of the truck and you will see a large bowl shaped pan with a drain plug on the bottom. Thats how you drain the fluid. Ron was right about droping the pan and crossmember, you might even need to drop the "y" section of the exhaust.
I have been told by techs at the dealer that once the filter is changed around 30K then all you need to do is drain the fluid and refill (between 4 and 5 quarts).
I have been draining mine every 10k. The drain plug has a magnet and the metal shavings have been minimal.
I bought the truck (1994) with 54k and now have over 130k, I will probably put in a new filter someday.
