I know there was a discussion about this somewhere in the archives, but I can't seem to locate it. I would like to put an electric can in my truck behind the radiator. Does anyone know what the dimensions are in that space? Can the original engine driven fan be removed. I have looked at Summit Racing. I know a guy using the Flex-a-lite FLX-396 on his series truck. It runs smoothly and quietly. Obviously, there might be a difference in space available behind the radiator, and thus I post the question to Discoweb. Any help would be appreciated.

Diesel,

I have 16" 1900cfm + 11" (~600cfm) fans on my range rover; they seem to cope okay with the heat but not when you push it 85+ on a flat, 70mph up a 6% grade, or 45mph up a 10% grade. 110F outside doesn't help things a tiny bit. Under these conditions, even the combination of 2 puller and 2 pusher (stock) electric fans doesn't cut it.
A Disco is heavier and has more drag, so it will only be worse.

so, if you're looking for a way of replacing the fan/clutch/shroud, i would think the only setup that will really work is Kenlowe twin fans drawing 48Amps. But 48A sucked off the alternator won't make it live longer.

FWIW, the radiator's dimensions are about 24" wide and 15.5" tall. A 16" fan can be made to fit. But I wouldn't mess with a stock setup if it works.

Leslie,

Nice meeting you too. I was hoping to meet a few more of you guys at the event. I will have to wait until the next time. There is at least one good trail up here. It is is wet, it would be nearly impossible without a winch. Let me know if when you might be in the area. Also, how close are you to Tellico. I have been itching to run those trails with some people.

I'm just outside Kingsport, on the TN-VA line... about half-way between Roanoke and Knoxville. To get to Tellico from up here you'd go through Knoxville down to Tellico Plains then up to the trails.

Might be awhile beofre I've the Series in trail-shape, but, I can always ride shotgun and act as spotter.... :)
