Does someone know if there is anybody in the whole freakin western hemispere that has a ARB Roof Rack in stock? I really want to buy one but I don't have 2 months to wait for ARB to paddle one over on their delivery Kayak. Or can someone suggest another good rack with a mesh floor? I really want the mesh floor. Thanks, Greg |

If you're in California, try Man-a-fre (www.man-a-fre.com) They sell the "Tradesman" rack, which is the company that makes (some) racks for Kaymar; I may be mistaken but I think ARB rebadges the Kaymar racks. I bought the one without the mesh floor for $425, much cheaper than the other rack options I saw, and it's mighty strong but pretty ugly. It also sits an inch or two lower than all the other racks I looked at (Hannibal, LR Adventure, others whose names I can't remember). It's a one-piece job so shipping might be a bit pricey. I live about 2 miles from Man-a-fre which may have influenced my purchase decision. |

Greg, I'm actually working on adding the ARB racks to my companies product line. Contact me offline and I can give you some pricing, etc. BTW- are you looking at a half rack or a full length ARB rack? My e-mail address is: [email protected] Thanks, Nathan Hindman http://www.PangaeaExpeditions.com |

Charles, No, I haven't found one. Atlantic British stocks the Half-size one but they are asking the rip-off price of $800. For comparison Nathan and Dee charge $495 for the full size one, but ARB takes 8 weeks to deliver it. I have decided to rig up a cheapie one for my upcoming trip in June, and wait for Dee and Nathan to get their rack to market: Picture an ARB rack with the roof drop of the LR rack. Oh Yeah! I think that bettaweld may be out of business, their site has been down for a while. I heard that the owner was in a motorcycle accident or something like that, so they are no longer open. |

www.discountrovers.com You can get their phone numbers from the website. As I understand it, Nathan handles the east and Dee handles the west. These guys have the best prices and a good reputation on Disco-Web. Greg |

Dee and Nathan would do well to realise that their website does not work with Netscape, only IE. They may well lose business because of it. |

I don't know. Bill's a pretty smart guy you know, so I suspect he uses Netscape ;-) On a totally unrelated note, are you getting blackening around where your tailpipe sticks through the rear quarter panel? |

The tailpipe is turned out the side under the quarter panel between the tire and the bumper. I get a tiny bit of blackening on the lower lip of the quarter panel but none on the outside. You have to get down and look under to see it. |

Oh sorry, I must have confused you with another Greg. I thought you had a DII with a hole cut in the rear quarter panel. |

Niall, yes it gets black. But it does wash off. I've just been too lazy to wash it lately. |

Well, nothing wrong with that, as long as the carbon doesn't bake on. I think it looks pretty sweet the way you've done it. I've seen it before but it can look like a hack job. Yours just looks like a really clean install. |

Thanks. I made an oval template and marked the body with a permanent marker. Then I cut the hole out with a jig saw, smoothed the edges with a file, and recently installed trim around the opening so it looks a little more "finished" now. Even after you wash it, one trip down the road and it's black again. |

I am currently designing a roof rack. I suggest you visit my thread under general non tech titled "what would you want in a roof rack?". I have designed it with us in mind, off roaders. All the durability of the ARB (probably more), the flowing lines of the adventure rack, and the practicality of compatibility with all your old thule and yakima equipment, together with a design that wont bend your gutters, no matter how much weight you put on it... you know you want to visit my thread...you know you do... Any ideas you have for what you would want on your dream rack are being considered, I am designing this for production, so please help me please you with the perfect product. Cheers, Kennith |
