Hi there... I'm having issues with the rear door on my 96 D1. The handle on the outside doesn't work. When you go to open it, it just travels freely back and forth (maybe a spring popped out?). I WD-40'd it to death and nothing. The other problem is that if I try opening it from the inside, nothing happens. I've tried kicking, screaming, pushing, pulling, and nothing. I would like to take off the rear panel, to see what the problem is, however I can't because the @#$! door won't open. (Whaaaa. call the whaaaaambulance.....) Any ideas, suggestions, valium, for me? Thanks, Buckaroo |

It's the mechanism inside that needs the wd 40, this is a common problem. My guess is that if you leave it for a few days it will open again. try spraying liberal amounts inside the door , hopefully it will catch some of the sticky mechs with out having to pull off the panel . |

Hi, I have a similar problem and WD-40 magic did not work for rear door. Yes, it did work my driver side and passenger side front doors. Today, I brought my 95 Disco to my mechanic(outside) and he found some broken springs near somewhere inside of latch. It looks like this small spring is the culprit and my question is anybody know whether I can get it from anywhere including dealership? I want to avoid to purchase whole door system because of this small spring. I think I read some post probably here who happen to have same problem and cannot find it. Please help! Thanks in advance, Jinwoo |

I had the same problem sprayed it and nothing. I had to pull the panel on the inside of the door off and use a screw driver in the mechinism to get it open. A part of the latch was broken. |

Hey Buckaroo, I suggest taking the rear door completely off and replacing it with a screen door with a hydraulic pump for easy open and closing. This will allow for a fresh breeze to come through while at the same time keeping bugs and intruders out. |

Lance, So what was your fix? Did you have to replace whole latch system? My problem might be a broken single spring from latch and wondering I can get it from dealer and make it works... Jinwoo |

I bought the assembly from nathan for about a hundred dollars. I think landrover calls it a latch door. Both the inside and outside door handles have rods that fit into it and open the door. They fit into a plastic peace and that is what broke. If it is a spring I would pull it apart and hunt for a spring at other places than the dealer. Maybee a hardware store. |

This is a common fault as a a tiny spring in the lock has failed and you will need a complete new lock. Remove speaker grille in rear door. Take off door handle and grab handle Unclip trim with screw driver. Release the connector to door lock button. Unscrew the 4mm Allen screws (2) from the edge of the door. Remove metal bracket connecting system to the central locking system. Carefully remove lock by wiggling. Replace with new lock which is very fiddley. Long nosed pliers have been found to be useful. |

Yes, I went to a local dealer with a broken spring and answer was (as I expected)I have to purchase whole latch assembly kit and they want $145 + tax. I called roverconnection and ordered same kit for $100. It's such a shame the land rover dealers always try to rip off their customers. Thanks for the guys who helped and shared their information to me and all others who have and will have similar problem. Thanks and best wishes, Jinwoo 95 Disco |
