How dose the replacement off a little, worn universal joint on the rear shaft effect steering vibs? Replaced today and the car drives like new for me this was at the end off my list, would never off thought this was the problem to my steering vibe. I have a lot to learn.Truck is 95 Disco.

Remember in 5th grade Science class when the teacher had you tie a string between two cups, and when the string was tight, you could talk into one cup, and the person across the room with the other cup could hear you?
Same principle applies here. Just because you 'feel' a vibration in one area does not mean that the source is in the same place. The vibrations 'travel' through driveshafts, steering rods etc....

Thanks, Graig as I said I have a lot to learn. Trying to fix steering vibe I replaced front bearings, radius arm and panhard rod bushers, also track rod and drag link ball joints had wheels belanced at two different tyre shops. I thought the vib was from the 4inch lift(have DC) vibe was not there after the lift the just developed over time.I think the universel joint may have worn out befor time becouse off the rear shaft angle may look at a DC for the back if vib gets bad again. Truck has 182,000 on it so repacement parts are not so much off a worry.

Andrew,

Did you replace with a true universal joint or with the rotoflex? How much did the part itself set you back?

Erik,

I replaced with a universal joint, rotoflex would not last long with the angle a 4 inch lift would put the shaft at. Cost I think around $400AU

My Rotoflex is cracked and worn - is there a particular brand of U-Joint / Driveshaft you replaced with?

Erik,

No particular brand of U-J that I know off left it up to the tail shaft shop. Tail shaft was my original shaft just had it modified you will have to buy a flange to replace your current flange as this will not mate up to the new u-j. I recall the shop haveing to machine the new flange back 4mm or to make it fit. Took them about two hours to do the job. The job was cheap compared to the front Double cardan joint, around $1000AU as I recall.

Andrew,

How many miles did you have on that shaft? And how many of those were with the 4" lift?

Dean,

Befor the lift I ran about 137,000mile with the rotoflex, went through about 4 or five of them. The lift has been on for two years now and have run around 45,000mile. The u-j that I replaced was the stock joint(not the new one) from new so think it did well to last this long. I think the joint wore out I think becouse of were I park is quite steep and there is lot off weight on the joint just my theory.
