I went with a buddy to have his oil changed, as well as his Diff. oil. He has a 99 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It states in his owner's manual that he needed to add a friction reduction additive in each of his Diffs.

Would anybody know if this would be beneficial or harmful for the Discovery?

Most gear oils these days come with the additive in the oil already mixed in. It does nothing for gears but it's needed for the clutch LSDs.
