I think they sound good, but I've never actually compared one side to side with a stock system. I doubt it's really worth the switch unless your old system is toast.

I have a Borla. There is no significant increase in power. We are essentially driving a brick on wheels, so adding a Borla won't help much. My reason for getting one was longevity. The Borla is stainless steel, so it will last a long time. My old stock exhaust needed to be replaced, so I spent a few extra bucks and got the Borla.

Look into getting a flowmaster mufler and also remove the resignator. I did it to my truck a few months ago. I did it to improve the sound and doubted that it would increase power. There was a very noticable increase in power (I have a 3.9), a slight improvement in gas milage, and it sounds BAD. Search for some old threads, we have talked about this many times over the last few months. A Flowmaster costs about $70 plus install. It was the best bang per buck mod that I have done yet.

Yea,

I did that flowmaster thing almost 2 years ago now, and it works great. I also changed to high flow cats and the difference is really noticible.

I also added a flowmaster and a straightpipe instead of the second smaller muffler...It sounds awesome and i've noticed a difference in power too....i dont know about borla... it costs more than a flowmaster and probably does the same...

seeing that we are on the subject, rovers north sales the NRP exhaust sytems. this can be bought with a "performance Cat..." Y header. its a bit costly from them and could proberly be sourced from somewhere else at a better price, but i am curious as to anyones experence with the system. i am due for a complete replacement of my exsisting pipes and would be curious as to anyones thoughts.

Hey Perrone,

Who's "high flow cats" did you go with? Where'd you get em?

Catco performance cats ordered from Summit Racing. Many muffler shops carry the same thing, and other manufacturers also carry performance cats. Mine were $59.99 each.

I put an article about my exhaust purchases and installs on the Spanish Trail page about 2 years ago.

Tommy,

I put a Borla on my wife's 95, and I can compare it side-by-side with my 94, and I don't really notice a difference in performance.

She hates it - too loud. It does have a nice rumble to it, but I guess that's a guy thing ;-).

Fortunately for her, my exhaust is on the way out, so her Borla will be on my truck soon, and she'll be getting a conventional SS outfit.

In short, if you want that beefy sound, it better be worth $500 to ya...

Ride On,

more power in a disco? riiiiighhhhtttt....

right now, i have no muffler at all. sounds only a bit louder than the borla and the flowmaster 50 series .wav's i heard on this web site (if that can really be any indication). as far as more power goes, i don't think so.

also, the borla has that big fart-pipe on the end, that just gets in the way.

I have a 3.9 engine. Many discussions here have said that performance mod's are more noticeable with a 3.9 without re-chipping

What is a tornado? Also above someone mentioned removing the resignator? Where is that and what does it do?
Thanks

I tore off the tailpipe and resonator and the left rear mudflap a couple weeks ago. I had the muffler guy make me a new tailpipe without any resonator and bend it out the side about 6" behind the tire. Now it can't stick in the ground and I can't tell any difference in the sound without the resonator.

BTW: I fixed the mudflap by cutting the other three off with a dremel tool. Looks much better without them and can't catch the tire.

Performance and sound aside, do the Borla or NRP give you better clearance in the tailpipe area? The stock one is just asking to get pinched.

Naaahhh.. not really... they can all get pinched.

my nrp did sit a little tighter against the underside than the stock resonator, but it has not kept it from getting squeezed ever so slightly on occasion (lol).

if it gets bad enough, i'll just chop off the resonator like everyone else..

I would never buy a system out of the box. Goto a good shop and they can custom make one. They can do a much better job tucking it up if that is your objective. The out of the box systems are for those who want to bolt them on themselves so they sacrifice tucking for ease of install.

Hmmm, I guess I got lucky because the Borla on my wife's 95 is placed nicely up under the bumper and there is plenty of ground clearance.

As a matter of fact, now I'm wondering if it will fit on my 94 SE7 because I have a rear hydraulic step, and that's right about where it lines up on hers... (no step on hers)

Anyway, I had a friend put it in, and he said it was was a breeze to install - charged me $75 for labor and that's it...

Just my thoughts...

I wanted to do a custom exhaust system in my 97, but a friend told me it would screw up the computer on mine since i have more O2 sensors. Is he on crack? Of couse my plan was to get rid of the cats :)

I just looked at the Borla system on the XD Disco featured on/in SafariGard's catalog/site. Looks like it tucks up nicely. Is that how the Borla sits on those of you running it or are there other workings going on underneath that one?
