I saw a yellow disco in a Uwharrie 2002 photo that had diamond plating along the bottom of the doors. Does abyone know how to do this? It was the disco on the trailer behind the hummer. |

yeah, but up there on the rack it's serving some kind of purpose and you didn't glue it on, did you? and you don't tow that beast behind your hummer, do you?

um. no and no. i actually used U bolts all over the flooring to secure it down and then used 3/4" wide weather striping to make sure the stuff did not rattle up there. makes for a great viewing platform too. |

$150. i ended up reinstalling though. all they did was radius the corners, welded a few pieces and put in about 4 of the U bolts i bought. i ended up taking it back off at 4 a.m. in the morning before Uhwarrie and waking up my buddies neighbors to install the weather striping and extra U bolts. don't really notice any extra noise. works like a tanning bed too. |

Where'd you get the plating for the roof? |

I asked him about the plating. He said he bought a sheet of it at Lowe's and cut it himself then glued it on. I have been planning on doing it for a while. It has been on my list of things to do. Unfortunately it is not on my WIFE's list of things for me to do, so it isn't done. I would make cardboard templates, then cut out the metal; paint it black, then use 2-sided tape. I did that on a Toyota and it lasted over 11 years. |

Funny how the Hummer was parked all weekend while the Rover was playing on the trails, huh? |

Garrett, Actually, your fab shop probably just thinks you are normal. I struck up a conversation with mine about all of the weird crap I get (similar to yours). He said that the stuff they get asked to make gets a lot stranger Curtis |

The boy with the hummer didn't have his father's permission to take the hummer on the trails. They cost real money to fix, and a really difficult to fit on the trails. DIESEL |

I can't find the pics of the disco with the diamond plating. Can someone redirect me to the photos? Does anyone know how to reach it's owner? BTW, I'm looking at the diamond plating to hide some damage and prevent future damage. |

Neal, The polished diamond plate will look pretty miserable with any kind of dents in it. Think of all the Monte Carlos, Imapalas, etc. that have those Advance Auto chrome tape strips along the bottom of the door panel to hide rust and dents dents from curbs. They look hideous. If you get a few dents, fix it right, or call it character. Hiding imperfections is for the Jeepers. I have several scratches that lend to camp fire tails. This is just my opinions, take it with a grain of salt. Diesel |

Camped @ Uwharrie with the Hummer "kids" and the repainted orange (was blue) disco with the diamond plate. They were nice guys so I don't want to bad mouth them too much. They were from Charlotte NC. The d-plate was from Lowes @ $60 per small sheet. The glue was failing in several spots. Can you imagine snagging a loose corner of that and peeling it off on the trail. I personally don't like the d-plate... especially for the roof rack because it creates a "wing" and blocks the light from getting in the sun roof windows. I apologize to the "tall guy", "monkey boy" , and the hummer "kid" b-mouthing the d-plate... but I did have a good time watching them get drunk, climb trees, and throw rocks at each others Discos. Temper tantrums aside, they were A-OK drivers... except for the "tall guy" running off the road on the way back to camp.... OOPS ! Then the forest service came around and asked everyone to slow down on the gravel road.... Oh, them kids... I hope they survive just a few of the things that I did at there age ! |

i have a jeep as well as a discovery and i have the diamond plate corners and rocker protectors on the jeep. the stuff is merly for looks. i have dented the plates several times causing body damage under the plateabout the only thing they would protect from would be rocks from your tires and brush running down the side of the plate. i leaned the rocker plate against a tree that i had to pass on a tight trail and thought it would be ok. dented the plate and body about an inch. plate steel would be a better choice. look for avalanchenginering.com to see these steel plates |
