Carter,

It was approximately last St. Patrick's Day (March 2001) when the announcement was made that Ford was going to buy Land Rover from BMW.... wasn't finalized until in the summer, but, it was a pretty firm deal up-front....

FWIW....

What years of Discovery were manufactured while under the ownership of BMW? And, did BMW simply own the Land Rover name, or did they actually utilize some of that famous BMW quality in making the land Rover?

British Aerospace bought Rover from the UK gov't in 1988. The Discovery made its UK debut in 1989. BMW bought the Rover Group in early 1994, just before the Discovery's debut in Canada and the US. BMW really didn't have much visible influence until the new Rangie (2nd generation) and the Disco II came out.

Also, the sale to Ford was finalized in May of 2001, FWIW.... The 3rd generation Rangie is pretty much a BMW design still.
