I have a 95 Disco 1 that I recently set up with Goodyear 235/85/16 MTRs. Of course there is a lot more road noise than with stock tires, but has anyone found a way of insulating against this? As a test of where the noise was coming from, I covered my rear wheelwells with layers of blankets and found that this reduced a lot of the noise. Is there any way of adding sound insulation to the rear wells?

Thanks, Mark

I am planning on installing dynamat on my floor and inside the doors of our disco in the next few weeks. I have used it on other cars with great results...it can be expensive though. If anyone knows of a good source to buy it in bulk please post it here.

You can buy sound deadening material from all car audio shops. If you want cheaper, and easier to apply, try dynashield. It paints on, therefore you can pile it on in places that offer more noise, and go thin in others. I did my doors in dynamat and the rest in dynashield. If you have access to an air compressor you can buy dynashield by the gallon and spray it on. Very inexpensive!

i have mud tires on my 95 disco, plus a lift and i experience a lil noise, but not so much of a difference that sound proofing is needed. how much noise are you experincing with the new tires?, i am very curious

ccdm3,

How were your results? Was it very noticeable? Also, knowing how prone our trucks are to rust (like underneath the carpet pad, for instance) anybody have any suggestions as to a good surface prep before applying Dynamat/Dynashield?

Dave,

For bulk soundproofing materials, check out: http://www.b-quiet.com/

I bought a huge roll of the Brown Bread several months ago, but haven't installed it yet. A D90 friend of mine installed the Brown Bread in his 90 and claims there is a huge difference.

David,
Yes, I did notice a difference. I have done this to nearly all of the vehicles that I have owned, and I will continue to do so in the future. The manufacturer only says to clean with soap and water then use alcohol before applying. I have never had a problem with rust. Now if I could just dynamat my sunroofs...damn things are loud with a rack on!

Thanks John, the Brown Bread looks great, and is cheaper than the bulk dynamat extreme that I was going to use.

Dave,

If we ever hook up for a trail ride, remind me to bring some Brown Bread with me. That way you can take a look at it and see if you like it.
