I am in the market for a roof rack for my Disco II. I was wondering what to look for, or if anyone had any suggestions.

what will you be using it for? how much are you willing to spend?
i have a wilderness rack by garvin (7'X4'-6"X6") pretty good rack. not as beefy as the adventure rack and so on, but does what i need. has the attachments for all the goodies too. (axe, shovel, tire, hi lift, etc.) still pretty beefy at over 100 lbs.

check out the rack at:http://www.garvin-industries.com/

Is the adventure rack the rack that the Land Rover dealership sells?

Check Rover Connection in the resources/vendors section of the D'web. They carry the Adventure Roof Rack for about $850 or so.

TLR has a roof rack just like mine. It has four Bosch Lights on front and Two Hella Fogs on the back. It also comes with a wood floor. There are only 6 of these racks made. They were made for an expedition in the Atlas Mountians in Morocco. I might add that they are very very stout. You can see a picture in my gallery.

What is that a Dixie cup mounted on the front?

That is Kyle's modified Bearmach rack (I believe). If you have seen it on more than one vehicle, it must have been his and the guy he sold it (the rack) to.
Not sure about the dixie cup.

check DAP in VT
Saw Brad's rack when visiting Dunsfold Trust, who put the vehicles together for that LR Morocco run.
Best built rack on any disco, but it must weigh a ton.

Unless you are in need of a full blown camel trophy rack system the ARB is hard to beat I love standing up on top, 280lbs and 6'4 not many racks can take that

The Garvin Wilderness rack is great, especially if you add a mesh floor. Very strong (I've had 5 or 6 people on mine, but I also added additional cross bar supports to evenly spread the weight to the outsides of the rack, not just on the wimpy cross bars they give you), but it's legs don't mount as securely to the gutters as the ARB does. I need to re-design some clips and have them made so that it is a bit more secure. I've never had one pop off, I just like some of the other systems better. The Wilderness legs can rotate the way they mount.

I like the double layer rack, the ones that bends to match the roof of the disco. But you dont see a whole lot of them besides the LR adventure rack. Anyone know of any others.

Chris you are right. I got my rack from Dunsfold. The rack weighs quite a bit, but I agree it is the best rack i have ever seen.
