Hi, Does anyone know if Cooper S/T 255/70 16 will fit on a Disco 1 without trimming the fenders.
Thanks
Mark

How much off-roading do you do? Is it in mud, sand, or rocks? Those tire will fit, but they also might rub in some situation. Are you using the stock wheels or a rim with a greater offset?

Ron,
I drive mainly on dirt and sand (Aussie outback) and have stock wheels (7j I believe) I also have 2" raised springs and Bilsteins.
Thanks

Anonymous,

I've just been through the process of deciding which tyres to fit. I've currently got 225/75/16's. Did a fair bit of reading and asked a few questions.
Summary of what I read
Any size other than
235/70/16 , 225/75/15 or 205/80/16 will open up the possibility of rear guard trimming or moving (see tech section rear fender relocation) and steering stop adjustment.

I've got the 2 inch lift as well, this will lesson the chance of rubbing but does not remove it.
If by sand you mean outback roads , Birdsville Track , Oodnadatta track then you don't get much wheel articulation. If by dirt you mean VIctorian High Country then there's a high possibility of getting the wheels up into those arches.

255's are effectively 20mm wider than stock and about 1 inch taller.

I've ended up just getting 225/75/16's Mud T/A's. They get fitted on Saturday.

I'm off to the Flinders Ranges next week to visit the Land Rover Jamboree in Blinman. Anybody else read this page from OZ going ??

Hope this helps

These questions come up again and again - for good reasons, we would all want the pros, and none of the cons of fitting bigger tyres... We wonder: What would I have to do "get an inch..." What for two...?

Why don't some of you guys make some interesting articles for posting in the tech-sections. The 235/85 article is a very good thing, but there should be much more: from general article discussing pros and cons, remedies etc. - to more specific articles (like the mentioned 235/85 and fender relocation and fender cutting). Different sizes, different options, different uses. There's a plethora of issues (and lots of good examples on the trucks pictured in the gallerys).

The closest I've seen to get an overview of some of the available options, was this thread on the Expedtion Exchange bulletin board appr. two months ago, where everyone posted pics of their Discos and told what they'd done.

Anyone dare starting such a series of articles for our valuable tech-section?

245 75 R16 BFG A/T KO's have replaced my Michelin XPC 205 80 R16's - also a 2" lift all 'round, minor steering stop adjustment & trimming of rear wheel arches. Well worth the effort as off road ability has improved dramatically.

225 75 R16's are really not much different to stock (about the same O.D. etc).

The 245 75 R16 is also a very tough tyre - check the load rating.

I also have a set of 245 75 R16 BFG M/T's and these are even better of road. I would do this all again. A bonus is they look pretty good too!!

In South Australia not too many Disco's are anything but dead stock so even a 245 75 R16 equipped & slightly lifted unit is noticeable!!
