(1996 disco with API extended warranty) my rearview mirror does not work,no leaks just does not get dark anymore.called warranty company and was told that there is nothing that states if it is covered or not and to take it to dealer, dealer states i have to leave with them to diagnose and send part #'s to warr company.of course if not covered they will charge for diagnosis. has anyone gone thru this and what was the outcome, does donnely make a good replacement and how much of a pain in the ass is it to replace? |

Donnely probably made the original one as they hold the patent for the glass. |

Anyone ever replaced a standard D1 mirror with one of the D2 or aftermarket mirrors which have a temp/direction indicator in them? If so how much of a PITA is it to do? Thanks |

are you sure the little "on" button on the bottom of the mirror is engaged? a truck warranty not covering something on the truck? amazing! give em hell. |

i had API on my first discovery. they were pretty good. my mirror broke over a year ago and have to replace it. JC Whitney has them for around $100. doubt they are as 'good' as the connelly mirrors. but then again it seems like a good # of them suck. if they API warranty covers all electronics you should be able to bitch about that. just keep on them.....if not just get a non auto dimmer for $20. |

My 96 Discos rearview mirror leaked. Toke it to the dealer (Dimmitt Land Rover, Clearwater, FL... when I lived there) and it was replaced UNDER warranty! Good luck! |

I have the same problem as of late. I would also like to know how much of a pain it is to replace it. Any input would be appreciated. |

just be careful if you are removing the mirror yourself. the metal 'button' should be heated a little before trying to yank it off. you can easily crack a window with too much force. glass shop could do it while you waited. there are a few wires that run in the headliner to the mirror that you will have to reconnect to your new mirror. |

Jose, Did you have an extended warranty when you went to Dimmitt or were you still under factory warranty? I find this very magnanimous of Dimmitt to replace it while not under warranty. Mine has died as well. No leaks, but the damn oil has settled so it looks as if I have a wave of mud in the mirror. Thanks, Bruce |

If you get the Donnelly replacement, before you replace the button on the windshield, try and use the exisiting mount with the new mirror. The mount should be a ball-and-socket joint that you can seperate and use the new mirror-blade with the existing button and mount. If so, this is a much better way to go. |

Hello Bruce long time. I still have the pictures of you from the Dimmitt event and the mud/water hole, if you want them, e-mail me your mailing address. I had extended warranty but I never paid my $50 deductible so I imaging Dimmitt took care of it. Talk to John, I was always treated fair. |

Thanks Jose. Hope Ca. is treating you fairly. Different terrain for you, no more mud/sand, right? As far as Dimmitt, John is no longer a service manager, he has been promoted, but I will still drive that long way to use them since the other LR dealer sucks! BTW, I have those pictures so no need, thanks anyway. Mike and I went into Richloam at night, after heavy rains, I lead the way. Tried to push through hole that Mike said was doable, but man it was deep, just below mirrors. Got hung-up/belly stuck, water inside of cab covered back woofers. Ugly. So yes, I still do occasional swimming with the Disco. Stay in touch |
