Thought I had this sorted but people have told me to put this washer different ways. Which is the correct way up/down for this washer?
Thanks John |

I believe lower pix is correct - cone of washer should face upwards - it matches the inverted cone on the OEM shock bushings. Bill |

When I was deciding the same issue, I compromised and ran one with cone facing up and the other with it down. Well maybe not a compromise but indecision. For me, in the end I don't think it mattered, althouth the bottom pic looks like it is slighty crushing the bushing. |

Ya know, I had the same question as I was used to seeing them as they are in the top picture, however, on all of the Rovers I have seen with stock suspension, they are all set up like the lower picture. Also, I believe that the pictures in the workshop manuals are consistent with the lower picture-concave facing away from the mount. Anybody got the workshop manual handy? Paul |

Paul, Isn't the issue here load bearing vs. nut retention? If the rounded part faces the nut, it will act somewhat like a spring or split washer and provide additional torque against the thread to keep it from backing off. On the other hand, turning it around would bear more load by supporting the entire bushing against a hard surface. -P |

There has been some discussion on this in Aus. Standard LR is apparently bottom pic, Rancho shock instructions tell you to do it the top way. It seems that some people have broken bottom pins on Ranchos and Bilsteins apparently because if the washer is put like top pic it can bind on the cup under long flex/extension and cause the pin to bend and fail. But I'm still not sure. John |

John, good point. I think the set up in the bottom pic would help prevent moisture getting trapped in there too, if that is an issue. Peronne, is that post in reference to another thread--additional torque? |
