Does a DII '01 have a choice on airbag / nonairbag ARB Bumper. If you must get the airbag version to fit the '01 would it be better to go with the Trek Outfitters to prevent what appears to be possible body damage caused by the ARB (i.e. Kyle's Window pics). I want to add a bumper was looking at ARB but after all the previous threads on how it can bend it appears the Trek Outfitters bumper would be a better option. Any opinions? Again it's for a DII '01 |

And why not a KVT? I am curious: Why the pull towards Matt's bumper? |

I too am in the market for a bumper, but have been holding off. Not too comfortable with the airbag version of the ARB and haven't really found one that I've liked except for the KVT! I hear that KVT is curently only sold to friends and that it's highly unlikely that he would mass produce the bumper. It's the best looking damned bumper around and I'm like the others just aching to get one. Has he reconsidered? |

There's one in the 'window' link. You can also see it at: http://www.expeditionexchange.com/hitrmv/ That's a nice looking setup on "Moby Dick".

Scott, I have a 2001 D2 with an ARB airbag bumper. The crush cans do not provide a solid mount. While driving off road the bumper vibrates. I can actualy see the top rail of the bumper bobbing slightly. You're going to have to reinforce the bumper with welds. That's easy and simple. If I had to do it again, I'd buy the non airbag version. However, I'd probably end up reinforcing it with welds too. I believe the non-airbag version has a slightly better approach angle too. However, if my airbag ARB hits a rock or obstacle I can be dang sure that I will receive some damage on the rear bumper. Just be cautious of developing a false sense of security with a high angle of approach on the front when you have a piss poor angle on the rear. My .02 Brian |

There is no such beast as a non-airbag for the DII. ARB went to such grief/$ to obtain an airbag rating that that is all they produce for this country. I had the privledge to drive off with the first air-bag approved ARB with my 98 D1. I also had the forsight to mount the leading edge to my skid plate and then back to the frame. Never had any failures in 12,OOO mi. of off-roading. Did the same to my DII. |
