Where you able to test the MAF Sensor you removed.
My 96 has repeatedly thown codes for fuel and coolant temp sensors and after reading your situation I am now thinking MAF sensor needs replaced. What did you pay for this sensor?

Thanks

I just had my air mass sensor rebuilt...much cheaper than new. Nathan Crabtree at discount rovers can provide the rebuild service.

I tested it and it wasn't reading like it should when I put the meter on it. So I ended up getting a new one. I had talked to discount rovers about getting it rebuilt but the turn around time was at least 3-4 days including overnight shipping to CA and back. Unfortunatly that was on a wed and I had a trip planned with a bunch of friends to moab that weekend with a dead vehicle in the garage(just my luck). If you have time I would recomend getting it rebuilt like dave said. I got lucky cause my brother inlaw owns an auto repair shop so he gets 20% off from the dealer on parts, not a ton of savings but made it not so bad to get new over rebuilt.

did you guys try cleaning it before getting it rebuilt? and how do they rebuild them? I took apart mine and cleaned it, i noticed there weren't too many parts to it(95 model).

Al-
It is a simple looking part with the sensor attached to the outside, but not much more to access. The rest of the unit is all molded and unserviceable upon my first (and only) inspection.
What did you take apart and clean?

Nancy,

Dont take it apart...esp if you are not sure it is the problem.

All MAF's are pretty much the same, thought mine was dirty so i took it apart and cleaned the sampling tube and the wires in the sampling tube. Put the unit back together and the truck drives like it did before. I would heed Dave's advice if you've never taken one apart, they are relatively expensive and easy to break parts.

Thanks for the advice - I have an obscene curiousity for wondering what makes things work (or not) but will leave well enough alone.
