Besides looking cool is there any true benefits to having a snorkel on a gas engine?

Yes and no. lol....

They actually help w/ keeping down dust ingestion, so they're actually helpful in dusty / dry environments.

Yes, it would keep water from entering the engine, causing hydrolock, etc. etc.

The reason why the get so hammered on gas engines, though, is that a diesel can run underwater, if it's got an air supply... the sparkplugs and distributor system don't fare well when wet.

On a Series, you can use lots of rubber gloves, and di-electric grease, and do fairly well. Improvements can be made to a 3.9 or a 4.0, too, but they're not as easy to button up.

But, they look SO COOL!!!!

Brad,

I have seen it time and time again - people heading into the water and stalling, and then spluttering all the rest of the day, mud all over the air filter and sensors. Although I cannot claim to be quite as courageous as Clarance, I have never had any problems since I fitted the mantec.

Ps keep an eye open in the trails section - we go down to the barrens quite a lot. And I'm working in Princeton, NJ.

Brad - you know John C?
He works in Cranbury once a week. He comes over occasionally to the Princeton Forrestal Village food court, as he says the food in Cranbury kinda sucks. Email me if you wanna eat / kick some tires.
