has anyone seen or tried the new Oil Plug from Fram? I know that Fram makes crappy oil filters but for some reason this oil plug seems appealing.

its like a on/off valve for draining oil from the pan. it has a plug that screws into the pan ; to remove the oil you screw in another item that lets the oil drain from a hose into you catch pan. you can drain oil when it is hot, it should not be as messy as just removing the current screw plug. tv commercials shown on speed channel.

It belongs out Kyle's window.

Mr. Bieler, don't be so quick to condemn. Similar setups have been used on general aviation aircraft for years.

Really handy and much cleaner. Also, depending upon design, it can be much quicker, although the aircraft ones use safety wire to keep them from draining:-).

I think it should go out the window.

What if you have any sort of debris or sludge build up. That little hole is too small to let it out.

It's crap.

My Boat has a setup that resembles that plug and it works great, saves me from jamming my massive pipes down under the motor every oil change. For a safety measure I did connect a 3ft length of rubber hose to the valve and I zip tie it up to the top of motor, that way in case the valve fails it wont dump 6 Qts of oil in the bilge. Had the same plug for 5 years with no probs so far.

I think the bigger concern would be if it lets the oil dump while driving. While one person may get by for 5 years, another could have a failure that kills their engine block as I'm sure a lack of oil would seize the engine......

While I think it is a great idea, it would have to sport a safety measure to guarantee that the oil could not inadvertently drain while driving.

Just my thought, but i do like the idea.

Like I said, just connect a length of rubber hose to the plug drain and even if the valve was open as long as the end of the hose is above the oil pan it would not leak a drop. Can't be any safer than that. JMcD
